Hub on Smith Offerings Keep Residents Active
The Hub on Smith is encouraging area residents to stay active, connected and engaged this summer through a wide variety of programs that extend well beyond its meal services.
The Hub on Smith Executive Director Dustin Stephens said offerings include fitness classes, outdoor recreation, creative arts, educational workshops, social activities, transportation services through Goose Creek Transit and caregiver support programs such as Day Break.

To keep people active this summer, Stephens said physical activities at The Hub include Happy Feet Cardio Dance, BOOM! Circuit Training, yoga, Tai Chi and hiking trips. To keep minds sharp people can take music lessons, join crafting groups, and receive technology training and educational presentations.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, remaining active over the age of 65 has more than just physical health benefits. Seniors who choose to become more active see immediate effects such as improved sleep quality, suffer from less anxiety and reduced blood pressure. Long term active seniors have reduced risks of developing dementia (including Alzheimer’s disease) and reduced risk of depression. Remaining active also lowers risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and lowers risk of eight different cancers (bladder, breast, colon, endometrium, esophagus, kidney, lung, and stomach), and the list goes on.
If you would like to participate, you can find the full summer schedule in The Hub’s Summer 2026 newsletter, Center Stage, and online activity calendar. Stephens said those who wish to stay involved can browse activities, register for events and view upcoming programs.

In addition to BOOM! Circuit Training, BAMM! Circuit training is also offered where most of the fitness activities are done while seated.
