Remainder Of US Highway 14A To Reopen For 2026 Summer Traveling Season
The remainder of a popular Bighorn Mountain Highway is about to reopen for Memorial Day Weekend traffic.
WYDOT has announced that depending on weather conditions, US Highway 14A will be fully reopened to motor vehicle traffic for the 2026 summer traveling season by 12-noon on Thursday, May 21st.
About 18 miles of the 22-mile stretch west of Burgess Junction to the Bald Mountain turnoff was reopened last week.
The highway is normally closed just after the Thanksgiving Holiday or at the end of the fall hunting season, because too much snow combined with too little traffic in the area, makes snowplowing efforts impractical.
Motorists are reminded that access to many forest service roads from US Highway 14A is not available, and are asked not to attempt to access any other roads at this time.
