The Wyoming Department of Transportation District 4 Burgess Junction crew will partially open the east side of U.S. 14A to traffic on Wednesday, May 13th, by noon.

U.S. 14A has been cleared of this winter’s snow accumulation and will be partially available to motorists until May 22, when it will be fully open to the public.

To ensure public safety and allow for final road maintenance, specific restrictions remain in effect.

Motorists may travel between Mile Marker 98 at Bear Lodge and Mile Marker 80 at the Bald Mountain Overlook, but will encounter a road closed gate at the overlook requiring all traffic to return to Burgess Junction. Semi-truck traffic is strictly prohibited during this partial opening phase.

U.S. 14A is one of four mountain passes affected by seasonal winter closures.

WYDOT closes these routes in the late fall once road maintenance becomes difficult and impractical due to heavy, drifting snow.

Motorists are reminded that access to many forest service roads from U.S. 14A is not available, and are asked not to attempt to access any other roads at this time.

WYDOT reminds motorists to obey all speed limits, wear their seatbelts at all times, watch for wildlife, and enjoy this spectacular drive.
