While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, AARP members Clarence and Stella Montano spoke on the 2025 SouperBowl.
Over a decade ago, Sheridan resident Wayne Schatz had a friend who needed food after the holidays, so Schatz took his friend around town to a few food banks and noticed bare shelves.
Food banks give a lot during the holidays and to replenish the shelves, Schatz worked with AARP Sheridan to develop the Souper Bowl.
AARP will be placing containers in certain areas around Sheridan and asking generous donors to place the donated food in the bin corresponding with the NFL team they believed would win the game.
Stella said the friendly competition helps to spur donations as the generous donors work to ensure their team has the lion’s share of the donations.

This year, Sheridan-area residents will once again be able to vote for their favorite team in a two-week non-perishable food drive for local food banks.
Clarence said the food goes to two different organizations. This year, the organizations chosen are the Salvation Army and the Food Group.
