Sheridan Memorial Hospital Primary Care physician Dr. Kristopher Schamber and Occupational Therapist Rachel Fields made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to announce a new service available through their offices.
Driving is a sign of adulthood and independence in America. One of the great initiations into adulthood for many people is earning a driver’s license. Brain change is tough for patients and their families. Once independent people can be forced to rely on family members and friends.
Dr. Schamber is board certified in internal medicine with a special interest in geriatric medicine and dementia. With the addition of Fields to the SMH team, an assessment can now be performed that helps to determine if continued operation of a motor vehicle by those undergoing brain change or recovering from surgery is safe for the patient and the community.

Proper evaluation of patient driving abilities has not been a possibility at SMH until now. Just a few short months ago the team was joined by Fields.
Fields is an occupational therapist with Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s Wyoming Rehab. Thanks to the training she has received in the past, these evaluations can now be completed.
R. Fields
Fields said SMH performs these evaluations with objectivity, dignity and sensitivity. The evaluation looks at many aspects such as medical history, fall history, current driving habits, vision, break reaction time and much more.

It is the goal of Dr. Schamber, Fields and members of their teams to give patients care that will allow them to remain as independent as possible for as long as possible.
To schedule an evaluation, speak with a primary care provider to determine if now is the proper time.
