Aaron PalmerSheridan County Clerk and Recorder Eda Schunk Thompson has announced the post election procedures her office will follow, including Post Election Ballot Audit, the County Canvass, and the Post Election Audit of Equipment.
In a release Monday, it was announced that the Sheridan County Clerk & Recorder and Chief Election Officer will be conducting the Post Election Ballot Audit, the County Canvass, and the Post Election Audit of Equipment on Thursday, August 22, starting at 1 p.m. at the Sheridan County Courthouse Election Office.
In a second release, the County Clerk announced a successful retest of Sheridan County’s Election Equipment performed on Saturday, August 17 at the Sheridan County Courthouse.
The new test deck grew from 150 test ballots to 1,260 test ballots to ensure that Wyoming statutory requirement was met and a different number of valid votes were assigned to each candidate for an office.
One mechanical issue occurred and was resolved in less than an hour.
The retest of election equipment using 1,260 test ballots, complied with the law, and demonstrated that the electronic voting machines will accurately count and tabulate the votes for each candidate when the actual ballots are tabulated on election night. Saturday’s successful retest demonstrates to each voter and candidate that they can maintain full confidence in the accuracy and operation of all our voting equipment.
In addition, members of the community created their own test deck from 19 ballots. This same team selected which 19 ballots to use, voted those 19 ballots, ran those 19 ballots through the DS450 election equipment, hand tabulated those 19 ballots, and compared the DS450 report to their hand tabulation report. This process took well over 2 hours and demonstrated the human errors that can occur during hand tabulation and the hours it takes to hand tabulate. This team confirmed and validated with their 19-ballot test desk that the DS450 election equipment accurately counted and tabulated the votes, and the election machine did not make any errors.
The Sheridan County Clerk maintains full confidence in the accuracy and operation of all voting equipment.
