REACH Sheridan, a new nonprofit located in Sheridan, announced it has received its 501(c)(3) status after a year of organization and several events.
In March of 2023, the volunteer board which included Laurie Morris, Brandy Nielsen, Rollie Hurza , Janie Majelky, and Hayden Starrett formed REACH to provide Sheridan County residents on the autism spectrum, their families and caregivers with resources, education, community and harmony.
Those with Autism spectrum disorder may have different manners of communicating, learning, moving, or paying attention.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, ASD is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. Some people with ASD have a known difference, such as a genetic condition. Other causes are yet unknown. Scientists believe there are multiple causes of ASD that act together to change the manner in which some people develop. One in 36 people are diagnosed with ASD, or 7.6% of the population.
