Johnson County and Carbon Creek/Powder River Midstream have reached an agreement in the tax protest concerning disagreements on tax assessments from 2016, ’17, and ’18.

The Johnson County Commissioners, acting as the Board of Equalization, on Tuesday agreed to the settlement reached with the company that will put to rest the litigation over the three years’ worth of mineral taxes, but won’t affect the tax protest for 2019 or the expected upcoming protest for 2020 taxes.

The settlement has the county accepting the funds the company has paid into escrow for roughly $3.4 million from 2016 through 2018.

The commissioners and elected officials were happy with the settlement, which means the county will see a good portion of what is owed to them.

The commissioners spoke about the settlement.

The amounts in the escrow accounts were $1.3 million for 2016, $1.1 million for 2017, and just under $1 million for 2018.
