Cheyenne Man Sentenced in Federal Court After Trafficking Fentanyl Near Elementary School

A Cheyenne man was recently sentenced to prison in Wyoming federal court for trafficking fentanyl near an elementary school. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

Drug Trafficker Headed to Prison

Acting United States Attorney Nicholas Vassallo announced Wednesday that 34-year-old Robert Butler of Cheyenne was recently sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge for Wyoming Alan B. Johnson for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl within 1,000 feet of a public elementary school and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Butler was sentenced to five years in prison and five years of supervised release following his prison sentence. Butler was also ordered to pay a $200 special assessment and $500 in community restitution. 

According to information from the Department of Justice,  police seized approximately 165 grams of cocaine after a traffic stop of Butler in Cheyenne on April 28, 2022. A subsequent search of Butler’s home resulted in the seizure of over 600 fentanyl pills, approximately 50 grams of cocaine, and various drug paraphernalia. This crime was investigated by the Cheyenne Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
