SCSD#3 Board Discusses Greenhouse, Tree Planting

The SCSD#3 School Board met on Wednesday, June 12 with several items on the agenda. The board discussed several policies which passed on first reading and approved two new out-of-district students.

They also approved the budget for 2024-25-year, approved changes to the superintendent’s contract, and approved Kelley Glackin for school nursing services for the upcoming year.

The board approved to award the contract for the purchase and construction of a greenhouse to the Greenhouse Megastore in the amount of $58,007. Superintendent Chase Christensen added that if local contractors came in with a lower bid they would be considered for the construction.

He said this about the greenhouse project.

The board also discussed options to spend down reserves, such as transferring some funds over into the capital construction fund, and using some for teacher bonuses and teachers salaries. They also discussed consolidated grant spending as well. This will be an ongoing discussion. They board approved to hire Paxton Hackett as maintenance/custodial position.

Tree planting was discussed as well. Christensen had this comment,

Trees will be a mixture, including spruce and apple trees.

July 22 at 9 a.m., is the day set for board members to come along on the rental walk-through of the school housing. Sam Olsen and Deborah Guyer will attend the walk-through.

There will be a board work session on July 9 at 7 p.m., and the next meeting will be on July 10 at 7 p.m.
