The Sheridan Hawks U19 Girls Team, led by Head Coach Jay Charlebois, is set to host the highly anticipated 2024 Girls State Hockey Tournament at the M&M Center. Taking place from Friday through Sunday, the tournament will feature top teams from across Wyoming in a competition that celebrates skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Sheridan’s selection as the host city is a testament to the community’s dedication to fostering a vibrant hockey culture. “We were fortunate to get it this year,” Charlebois shared, detailing the competitive process that determines the tournament’s location. “It’s a bidding process. and whoever can satisfy the requirements the best generally gets it.”

Competing teams from cities such as Gillette, Casper, Pinedale, Jackson, Cody, Miles City, and Laramie will gather, highlighting the growing prominence of girls’ hockey in the state. The Sheridan Hawks, by finishing first place overall in the season, have earned the top seed in the varsity bracket. Charlebois confirmed, “Yep, finishing first place overall and that got us first place in the varsity bracket.”
In preparation for the tournament, the focus has been on honing team dynamics and the fundamentals. Charlebois underscored the importance of teamwork: “At this point, there’s not much more that we can learn. It’s about applying what we’ve learned throughout the season, focusing on the basics, and maintaining a positive team spirit.”
Confirming their leading position, the Sheridan Hawks head into the tournament not just as hosts but also as the top contenders, offering them a unique opportunity for redemption and success in front of a home crowd. Last year, the team fell short of their ultimate goal in a closely contested final, setting the stage for this year’s pursuit of victory. “A little short of our goal, but we’re right back where we were. Perfect chance for redemption this year,” Charlebois remarked, highlighting the team’s resolve and determination.
With Sheridan ready to welcome teams and fans alike to the M&M Center, the weekend promises to be a thrilling showcase of competitive hockey.
Sheridan Hawks’ Tournament Schedule: Friday Kickoff at 8:45 AM, 1:15 PM Matches on Saturday and Sunday, With Sunday’s Game Time Conditional on Advancement.
