County 4-H clubs celebrate 4-H Week

Sheridan County’s 4-H clubs are preparing to celebrate National 4-H Week.

County 4-H Educator Emily Swinyer said the week officially kicks off next Monday, Oct. 5, but one of the local clubs will start early with a petting zoo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Tractor Supply.

Swinyer said the event will feature rabbits, chickens, a goat and even a pet turkey and is intended to promote 4-H.

Swinyer said the theme of this year’s event is “Opportunity for All,” to show how everyone can participate in 4-H. She said many clubs are decorating windows at local businesses and putting up displays to promote the organization.

Swinyer said social gatherings are limited, but fun ways are available for people to participate online through the 4-H Facebook page. Starting Monday, each day will focus on a different special event. On Membership Monday, the focus will be on how to join 4-H, why join the organization and details regarding the local clubs, their projects and activities.

Tuesday is “Trivia Tuesday,” when project-related trivia will be posted all day. Swinyer said Wednesday is “Wear It Wednesday,” when 4-H members and leaders are encouraged to wear “4-H swag” to school or work and post pictures on social media.

Thursday will be “Throwback Thursday,” when leaders and adults are encouraged to post photos of their participation in 4-H when they were younger. Youth can reflect on their first years of participation, and Swinyer said historical photos from the early years of Sheridan County 4-H will be posted.

The final day of the week has been designated “Fantastic Leader Friday,” honoring leaders in Sheridan County. Swinyer said 4-H members can post photos of their favorite leaders.

She added posts that are tagged from Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be entered in a drawing for prizes.
