Officials with Sheridan Memorial Hospital recently became aware of scam phone calls where the caller claims to be a hospital employee. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

Scam Warning

During the scam phone calls, the person on the phone misrepresenting themselves as a hospital employee asks for personal information including Social Security numbers, Medicare ID numbers and other personal information. The calls are coming up on caller ID as from either the hospital or one if its clinics or departments.

SMH states in a media release that while the phone numbers from which the calls are coming may match Sheridan Memorial Hospital numbers, they are not originating from the hospital. This has been confirmed and verified by the SMH Information Technology Department. SMH has reported these calls as a scam and a complaint has been filed with the Federal Communications Commission.

As a reminder, do not give out your personal or financial information over the telephone. If you are unsure, but think the call may be a scam,  end the phone call immediately and contact the hospital directly or the Sheridan Police Department.
