Wyoming’s 4A offensive and defensive player of the year will join his big brother on the college football field.

Dane Steel has signed his National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play football at Montana State.

This past season he had 970 yards receiving, but he found ways to score in all facets of the game.

Steel caught 9 TD passes, ran in 8 more, returned 6 punts, 2 pick 6’s and 1 kickoff return for scores.

He was named a unanimous all-state selection as a wide receiver, defensive back and return specialist.

Steel says there were 2 reasons why he chose MSU.

“The Gameday atmosphere in Bozeman is awesome. I’ve spent a lot of time down there, watching my brothers play football and it’s just something that is super cool and I’d be honored to be able to do and be a part of that, so that really pushed that over the edge and made me want to go there.”

His older brother Brock Steel just finished his redshirt freshman season with the Bobcats.

Dane is also a 2-time Wyoming High School State Champion wrestler and a 2-time All-American.

He adds it was a tough choice between wrestling and football, but he feels he made the right choice.

“The reason that I really decided football over wrestling is that I just love football and I don’t know if I like wrestling as much as I love football. There’s a lot of people that have told me that I had maybe a different future in wrestling or a bigger future and stuff. I think it really just came down to what I wanted to do more and I know that I love football and I knew I wasn’t going to regret making that choice, so that’s the one I made.”

Steel says he is considering a major in civil engineering.
