Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue board member and volunteer Claire Deuter is an active board member. She volunteers at the rescue a few hours every week, helping where she can and being rewarded with plenty of cuddle time from thankful felines.
Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue’s mission is to rescue and rehabilitate special-needs cats, provide free and low-cost spay and neuter services to the local community, and assist people who need help keeping their pets during difficult life situations.
Deuter volunteered at the shelter for over a year before making the commitment to serve on the board. An attorney by trade, Deuter’s love of cats led her to the Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue.

So far this year, the SCSCR has adopted 270 cats to families with a goal of another 100 adoptions before the end of 2023. The rescue also received 114 stray cats this year, with 10 cats being reunited with their owners. According to Deuter, many cats that are brought into the SCSCR are not microchipped. This small device is placed under the skin of your dog or cat and can be read with a special device that will give information on the cat and the owner. SCSCR offers microchips with free registration for just $10.
It’s through the generosity of individuals in the community that help maintain the rescue. The rescue is funded primarily through grants, donations and General Purpose Excise Tax Funds.
For those who would like to help the rescue, the SCSCR will be holding an event on Nov. 11.
