Morning Sports: March 23, 2026
Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey team gave it all they had, but in the end, the team came up short twice in the NA3HL Frontier Division Championship Series.
In Game 2 on Friday at the Whitney Rink, the team was up 4-3, but Helena would score twice in the final 2 minutes and 5 seconds to win 5-4 and force Game 3.
In that game on Saturday, it resulted in the same final score in favor of the Bighorns, who advance to the Fraser Cup Tournament, beginning Wednesday in St. Louis.
Sheridan finishes the 2025-26 season with a record of 37-15.
Sheridan/Buffalo HS Soccer: The Sheridan boys and girls started the 2026 season with wins at Buffalo this past Saturday.
The score for the Broncs was 6-1 in their favor, while the Lady Broncs got a win via shutout 5-nil.

Both Sheridan teams start 4A East Conference play on Friday vs. Cheyenne South and on Saturday vs. Laramie.
The boys play at home and the girls on the road.
Buffalo is scheduled to play a boys and girls double-header on Friday at home vs. Lander.

Sheridan HS Softball: Sheridan started the 2026 season with a record of 2-1-1 at the Cheyenne Invitational.
The Lady Broncs started the weekend on Friday with a 30-zip thrashing of Green River, then settled for a 10-10 tie against Laramie.
On Saturday, the team lost against Rock Springs 9-1, and then defeated Cheyenne South 20-3.
Sheridan is scheduled to play their home opener this coming Friday vs. Thunder Basin, and also play on Saturday at Campbell County.

University of Wyoming Spring Football: It is now spring according to the calendar, and that means it’s time to break out the pigskin.
Spring Football Practice for the Wyoming Cowboys starts tomorrow in Laramie.
The Pokes are allowed up to 15 practices over a 34-day period.
Although an official schedule has not been announced, in past years, UW has practiced on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for 5 consecutive weeks, with the final practice usually being the Brown and Gold game.
The 2026 season is scheduled to begin on Saturday, September 5th with the Border War at Colorado State.
The home opener is set for the following Saturday against Northern Colorado.
Mountain West Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball: The post season continues for some Mountain West Conference teams and is over for others.
The Utah State men lost in their second round NCAA Tournament game yesterday vs. Arizona, 78-66.
In the men’s NIT, New Mexico won their second round game at home vs. George Washington 86-61, to advance to the quarter-finals tomorrow at home vs. St. Joseph’s.
Nevada won their second round game at home vs. Liberty 73-63 to advance to the quarter-finals tomorrow at Auburn.
UNLV’s season ended on Saturday with a 77-66 loss at Tulsa.
On the women’s side, Colorado State lost their first round NCAA tournament game vs. Michigan State on Friday 65-62.
In the WBIT, San Diego State won their second round game vs. McNeese 56-41, and will play in the quarter-finals on Thursday at Kansas.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets won a pair of home games this past weekend.
The team won on Friday vs. Toronto 121-115, and yesterday vs. Portland 128-112.
The Nuggets are next scheduled to play tomorrow at Phoenix.
With 10 games remaining in the regular season, Denver at-worst, could end up in the play-in tournament.
Currently the team would be the #5 seed in the playoffs.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche won a pair of road games this past weekend.
The team won on Friday at Chicago 4-1, and yesterday at Washington 3-2 in overtime.
With those wins, Colorado became the first team to clinch a playoff spot and still have 13 games to play in the regular season.
The Avs are next scheduled to play tomorrow at Pittsburgh.
Colorado Rockies Pre-Season Baseball: The Colorado Rockies went 2-1 in the games played this past weekend.
On Friday, the team won at San Diego 9-3.
Ezequiel Tovar and Hunter Goodman each hit solo home runs, while Bryant Betancourt provided a 3-run shot for the cause.
On Saturday, Colorado lost at Kansas City 6-5, then won yesterday at home vs. the Athletics, by the same 6-5 score.
Ryan Ritter and Edouard Julien each knocked one out of the park.
The Rocks are scheduled to play today at home vs. Detroit.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:10pm.
