Sheridan HS Boys Wrestling: The Sheridan High School boys wrestling team is looking to have strength in numbers this season.
Head Coach Tyson Shatto didn’t have the exact numbers, but says this year’s team is one of the largest he’s seen in 20 years.
Among the top returners are Keegan Rager who was last year’s state champ at 165 pounds, and Braxten Crow who was last year’s state runner-up at 157 pounds.
Shatto adds he hopes that the experience from his returners can be passed on quickly to the newcomers.
Sheridan hosts Worland in a dual meet this Thursday beginning at 5pm.
After that the team will split up with the varsity heading to Cheyenne for the weekend, while the JV and new guys will compete in Powell.
Sheridan HS Girls Wrestling: The popularity of girls wrestling continues to rise, and Sheridan is benefitting from that.
Last year, the Lady Broncs were state runners-up, but most of their placers at that state tournament have since graduated, thus there’s some experience that needs to be made up.
Head Coach Marcie Lane says the numbers increase should help speed up the learning process for the newcomers.
Sheridan will also dual with Worland at home on Thursday starting at 5pm, and then compete on Friday and Saturday at Rapid City, South Dakota.
Sheridan/Johnson County HS Basketball: The High School Basketball season starts as early as this coming Thursday, and all of the North-Central Wyoming teams will be on the road for opening weekend.
Sheridan will be in Casper, and their first opponent is Douglas beginning at 9 and 10:30am.
On Friday, the Broncs and Lady Broncs will take on Riverton starting at noon and 1:30pm and on Saturday they’ll play Arvada West out Colorado at 11am and 12:30pm.
Tongue River will be in Glenrock to start the season with 3 games.
The Eagles and Lady Eagles start on Friday vs. Wyoming Indian, starting at noon and 1:30pm, and then they will also play Moorcroft at 3 and 4:30pm.
On Saturday TR will go up against Rocky Mountain, beginning at 12-noon and 1:30pm.
Big Horn will start the season in Burns with 3 games.
The Rams and Lady Rams start against Southeast on Friday, with tip times scheduled for 1 and 2:30pm.
Later that day, they’ll take on the host team at 7 and 8:30pm and conclude on Saturday with games vs. Wheatland, starting at 12:30 and 2pm.
Arvada-Clearmont is scheduled to begin their season on Friday and Saturday at a tournament in Upton.
Buffalo is scheduled to compete Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Gillette, and Kaycee is scheduled to play on Friday and Saturday at Wright.
Sheridan HS Nordic Skiing: The season was supposed to start this weekend in Jackson, but since there’s not enough snow in the Jackson area, the meet has been indefinitely postponed.
Teams are unable to reschedule for the following weekend, due to lack of hotel space, because it’s so close to the Christmas Holiday.
The next scheduled meet is set for January 2nd and 3rd at Pinedale.
University of Wyoming Men’s Basketball: The Wyoming Cowboys are back on the court today as the team hosts the University of South Dakota.
Tip off is scheduled for 6:30pm and you can hear the game LIVE on AM 1410 KWYO and 106.9 FM.
