Sheridan Wrestling: One Sheridan High School wrestler is not only a 2-time Wyoming State Champ, he is now a 2-time All-American.
This past weekend, 13 Sheridan High School wrestlers and a number of other high school wrestlers in Wyoming, competed at the National High School Coaches Association Folkstyle Wrestling National Championship Tournament held in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
For the boys, wrestlers compete against other wrestlers within their grade level (freshmen vs. freshmen, sophomores vs. sophomores, etc…), in an effort to place in the top 8, which wins them All-American status.
Since there are not as many girl competitors, grade level doesn’t matter.
For the 2nd year in a row, Dane Steel of Sheridan has won All-American status.
The junior won his first 4 matches to advance to the quarter-finals.
He dropped the next match to the eventual national champ, but won the next 2 matches in the consolation round to qualify for the 3rd place match, where he dropped a 3-2 decision and finished 4th.
Steel was 5th in the sophomore 145 pound weight class last year.

Sheridan is 2-0-1 on the season.
As for the girls, their Friday game home vs. Cheyenne South had to be played in Gillette, because field conditions in Sheridan were unplayable.
The Lady Broncs picked up their first win of the season with a 5-1 win against the Lady Bison.
Saturday’s game against Laramie was postponed and will be made up at a later date.
Sheridan’s record is 1-1 on the season.
