Cora M. Stanker was born March 29, 1930, to John and Dora M. Grover in Branson, MO. Her dad was an itinerant farmer, and they traveled around the Midwest and West Coast before settling in Scottsbluff NE. She was one of 12 surviving children and when she was in High School, she went to live with Mr. and Mrs. Chapman. She married Robert “Bob” A. Stanker on Oct. 15, 1954 while he was on leave with the Navy. Cora had 4 kids and was a devoted wife and mother. Bob retired from the Navy in October 1973. They moved to Lander, WY. She held several positions with the phone company while Bob was in the Navy, and she retired in 1986. They continued to move around with stints in Buffalo, Story, Gillette before settling down in Sheridan. She loved her husband and her family very much. She died on September 25, 2024, and is survived by her children, Ron Stanker (Nancy), Don Stanker (Raeline), Carrie Hilpp (Kody) and Robin Griffin (Wayne) and 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Cora will be laid to rest with her husband, Robert “Bob” Stanker, at Black Hills National Cemetery at 2:30 pm on Thursday, October 03, 2024. Champion Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements. Online condolences may be written at www.championfh.com.
