Lummis, Colleagues File Court Brief Defending Second Amendment Right to Carry

U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming filed a court brief with 24 of her Senate colleagues defending the constitutional right to carry firearms outside one’s home. According to a media release from the Senator’s office, the amicus – or friend of the court – brief was filed in a case before the U.S. Supreme Court, New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen. Lummis and her colleagues argue that New York laws that make it extremely difficult to carry a firearm outside the home violate the Second Amendment’s guarantee of the right to bear arms.

New York law does not allow firearms to be carried outside the home without a license, then makes it challenging for law-abiding citizens to obtain that license. The senators emphasize that, by including the right to bear arms in the Constitution, the Founding Fathers made a policy choice and explicitly removed the ability from state and federal legislators to second-guess that choice. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case this fall.

What the 2nd amendment guarantees is the right to join the national guard. Why doesn’t any one read the whole thing anymore? Seriously- it’s not that long.

      Second Amendment:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Don’t see anything about the national guard, but I do see in part, “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”
      Short, simple and clear.
Not a “living” statement as some would claim.

Besides your apparent disregard for personal freedom and individual rights, perhaps you would benefit by taking a remedial reading course yourself.

Then why can’t I own a thermonuclear device-and saying a well regulated militia clearly implies that “regulation” is imposed by the government. By the way, I own several guns that I use for hunting – I have never felt the need to strut around trying to intimidate a peaceful BLM protest with an imitation weapon of war. The right to bear arms is infringed at any number of levels-as it should be, and since you don’t appear to be familiar with the terms “militia” or “regulation” perhaps a referral to a tutor would be of use to you.

Sure, ray, if you could afford one.

The 2A isnt about hunting, ray, its about having the ability to overthrow a tyrannical govt. Peaceful BLM protest? Is that before or after the violence, arson, and vandalism?

Where was the violence in Sheridan? And the second amendment clearly was not about enabling the people to resist the government- please revisit the Whiskey Rebellion or , for that matter,. the Civil War.

Good job, Lummis. We still have a Constitution in this country.

God given? I”m not a Biblical scholar but I don’t recall a single reference to guns in the Bible. Lot’s of smiting and the slingshot- but no guns. Are you suggesting that the Bible is a living document as opposed to the Bill of rights that was cast in stone? Think you’re on shaky theological ground here.

I don’t think our forefathers had any inclination Americans would be killing Americans (especially law abiding innocent Americans) in such high numbers of fatalities

So it was just recently that Americans have been killing Americans in large numbers? Did you forget about the civil war, and other rebellions that happened in our countries history? The forefathers didnt just sit around watching teevee all day, and playing with their cell phones. They had a lot of time to think about the ramifications of the 2A.
