Barrasso: Democrats Want to Use Tax Code to Destroy American Energy Jobs
At a Senate Committee on Finance markup on “The Clean Energy for America Act” Wednesday, U.S. Senator John Barrasso criticized Democrats for choosing to use the tax code to intentionally destroy America’s fossil energy industries and jobs. Senator Barrasso said energy is the backbone of America.
Barrasso said picking winners and losers is not good tax policy, especially when the winners are our country’s rivals. He said when the losers are hard working Americans who lose their jobs, their financial security, and pay more to heat and cool their homes, this is not the direction in which we should head.
According to the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, the Clean Energy for America Act would consolidate current energy tax incentives into emissions-based provisions that incentivize clean electricity, clean transportation and energy efficiency. The incentives would be available to all energy technologies as long as they meet emissions reduction goals.

Don’t believe what this dishonorable self-serving hollow man says. He has turned his back on his oath to support the constitution, which he swore upon taking office. He is just interested in being a toady for the national repubs, who are only interested in power, access to money, and status – forget governing. Barrasso and his repub cronies won’t even speak to their attempt to overturn a legitimate election, and try to keep anyone from finding out what really went on by sabotaging any attempt to look into it. They are worried, and should be. The fossil fuels industries (oil, natural gas, coal) certainly were picked as winners by the US Government – for over 100 years got to use federal resources AND tax breaks. But the chickens have come home to roost and now mostly the ordinary citizen is paying the price – changing climate, loss of public land access, increased fees and decreased service, and changing job opportunities. If only someone had seen it coming and proposed retraining for the next energy technologies – the repubs sure didn’t! Barrasso and the repubs only want to tell us we’re victims so they’ll get votes and regain access to money, power and status. The repubs don’t do anything to address problems. I say don’t be so gullible.

As to the future of the energy industry, Senator, the biggest threat to that sector of the economy is the Green New Deal being pumped by the lunatics of the American left. Sorry to have to say this, but you had a wonderful opportunity when you were Chairman of the Senate committee dealing with energy and environment to have called for a public, nationwide debate on the entire issue of “human induced global climate change” (the left’s new version of Al Gore’s man-made global warming). I know that your office was given this idea along with a suggestion as to possible participants in such a debate — scientists with doctoral degrees in climate-relevant disciplines such as the physics involved in Thermodynamics. Sadly, you were too busy standing around with Mitch McConnell getting photo ops to have picked up the gauntlet and gone to battle to at least try to provide the American people with both sides of an issue the Democrats have been pumping since the 1990s. Again, sorry to say, it’s a little too late for you to now start bemoaning the fact that due to leftwing Democrat policies and programs many, many people in the energy sector have already lost their jobs and many, many more will likely follow them to the unemployment line — all because the GOP can’t seem to muster he intestinal fortitude to stand up to the ludicrous pronouncements the Democrats have made concerning this issue over the past 20+ years!

Agreed. Pelosi, schumer, durbin, waters, hoyer, and host of other dinosaurs have been grifting in office for way too long. Career politicians are corrupt politicians.

Don’t leave out the many repubs that have been milking their way to a fat pension…and free health care at the expense of the common worker, especially in Wyoming.

This man is a buffoon. He supported the crippling Trump/Ryan tax cuts which are now being paid for by the middle and lower classes and he has the audacity to blame the stagnant economy on the left. Wyoming could and should be in the forefront in energy diversification and experimentation, but we are stuck in technologies that were developed 150 years ago. The world is passing us bye and Barrasso is definitely to blame for his head in the sand mentality and willful ignorance.

A $10,000.00 tax credit for buying the new electric FORD F150 might be a good incentive for potential buyers…”the good doctor” needs to consider the mega trend toward clean energy and figure out how to diversify the state economy

That still leaves a $30,000 bill left over for the buyer. How many people can afford that? And what happens when the Li ion batteries give up the ghost? Shall they be buried next to the hundreds of wind turbine blades near Casper?
