SPD Review Violent Crime Numbers in 2025
Sheridan Police Department Chief Travis Koltiaks and Captain Tom Ringley made an appearance on Public Pulse to review violent crime statistics for the 2025 year.
Ringley reported a slight decline in overall violent crime in 2025 compared with the recent three year average, according to statistics compiled by the department. Violent crime categories include homicide, robbery, rape, aggravated assault and simple assault. Data shows the department investigated 20 violent crime cases in 2025 compared with a 2022 through 2024 yearly average of 21 cases, representing a 4.8% decrease and bringing the department close to its stated goal of reducing violent crime by 5%.

Several categories showed notable decreases. Homicide cases dropped from a three year average of two per year to one case in 2025. Reported rape cases also declined from an average of two to one. Robbery cases fell from an average of one case per year to none reported in 2025. Aggravated assault was the only violent crime category to increase slightly, rising from an average of 17 cases to 18. Simple assault cases declined significantly, dropping from a three year average of 179 incidents to 135 in 2025.
Department statistics also indicate alcohol and substance use remain a significant factor in many incidents officers respond to. DUI arrests declined slightly from a three year average of 168 to 162 in 2025, while arrests involving alcohol (not DUI related) rose slightly from 188 to 190. Overall cases involving alcohol declined from an average of 661 incidents to 626 in 2025.
Ringley reports that every incident in which officers used force to gain control of a suspect involved individuals who were under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
