Steve Hanson Honored as SCSD#1 Teacher of the Year

On Friday, May 2, School District #1 announced Tongue River High School History Teacher and Coach Steve Hanson as Teacher of the Year at their teacher appreciation day at Big Horn High School.

Tongue River High School Principal Wade Sanford had this to say about Hanson,

Hanson talked about receiving the award.

Retirees were honored at the appreciation day as well. One was Blaine Kerns, Building and Grounds Coordinator at Tongue River School, who could not attend, but Jeremy Smith, SCSD#1 Business Manager, read a letter he wrote about Kerns and his work at TRS.

Another retiree is Big Horn Middle School Counselor Renee Arsenault. Brian Lawson, Principal at Big Horn Middle School, talked about Arsenault.

Big Horn High School Principal Mike Daley also retired this year. Dailey graduated from Big Horn High School, and he was very active in sports. Later, he became a coach and coached at Big Horn High School before he took the job as Principal in 2001.

Dailey had this to say about his time in Big Horn.

After the retirees were honored, the Apple Awards were presented. Apple Awards are presented to non-teaching staff who have gone above and beyond for the students.

This years recipients are: Big Horn Middle School Counselor Renee Arsenault; Tongue River Middle School Counselor Keri Braunberger; Tongue River High School Special Education Para. Tiana Doswell; Administrative Assistant Big Horn Elementary Melanie Meineke, Big Horn; Administrative Assistant Tongue River Elementary Kari Johnson. Russ Korp, Big Horn Schools; and Sara Hogan, SCSD#1 District Apple Award winner.

Each school in the District nominated a teacher for the SCSD#1 District Teacher of the year award. Out of these recipients, the district Teacher of the Year was chosen.

The Teachers of the Year in each school are Big Horn Middle School, Tina Melin; Tongue River High School, Steve Hanson; Tongue River Middle School Jade Seiler; Big Horn High School, April Zent; Big Horn Elementary School Jesse Hinkhouse; Tongue River Elementary Heidi Carreiro; Cowboy State Virtural Academy Heather Olsen.
