Nearly 20 years ago, a dedicated group of citizens, along with many philanthropic organizations, gathered with the purpose of providing a different model of care for loved ones as they age.
That mission centered around providing long-term care in loving homes where every person could live a dignified, fulfilling life.
Since Green House Living for Sheridan opened its doors in 2012, the organization has provided elders with exceptional care, enriching the lives of residents and staff in what was at the time the only Green House in America operating as a nonprofit entity without larger organizational oversight.
Green House Living for Sheridan, its staff and board are deeply indebted to the founders and all those who supported the initial and ongoing efforts.
Unfortunately, across the country, nursing homes struggle to recruit and retain staff.
The challenges exacerbated during the pandemic, leading to increased staff turnover and financial strains.
Over the past few years, Green House Living for Sheridan has faced significant financial constraints and expenses that continue to exceed the nonprofit’s income.
Despite efforts to address these challenges, the financial burden has become unsustainable.
As a result, the board of directors for Green House Living for Sheridan approached Sheridan Memorial Hospital regarding the ongoing management and operations of their facility.
The hospital’s leadership will discuss the opportunity with the hospital board of directors the week of May 5.
“The hospital has long supported the mission at Green House Living, and our hope is that with their expertise, experience and economies of scale, they will take on management of our operation in order to protect this valuable community asset, honor the contributions of donors and ensure the sustainability of the visionary model of care moving forward,” said Linda Lawrence, board president for Green House Living for Sheridan.
