This past August was so hot, it will be in the record books for some time.
The National Weather Service in Billings, Montana, says the average temperature in the Sheridan area for the month of August was 73.6 degrees Fahrenheit, making it the 3rd hottest August on record.
That average temperature is 4.5 degrees warmer than normal for the month of August.
Shawn Palmquist from the National Weather Service explains what happened.
“Just a very persistent ridge of high pressure over the region, so that brought well above normal temperatures and dry conditions overall as well. It parked itself right over much of the Rockies and actually most of the western US, so not just Sheridan but most of Wyoming, Montana and areas west had one of their warmest August on record.”
Palmquist adds the only 2 years that had an August with a higher average temperature than this year, was 1983 at 77.7 degrees and 2003 at 74.1 degrees.
According to National Weather Service records, if the high temperature in the Sheridan area on Wednesday (September 7th) is greater than 100 degrees, not only would it be only 6th time in recorded history that a day in September had a 100-plus degree high temperature day, it would also be latest day in the calendar year that a 100-plus degree high temperature day has been recorded.
Before this year, the latest day in the calendar year where the high temperature was greater than 100 degrees, was on September 5th of 2020, when the high temperature was 103 degrees.

…back in the early 1980’s when Al Gore first brought up the subject of global warming/climate change the republicans and the GOP all laughed…just another example of the misguided republican party…now that many of the lakes, streams and rivers are drying up, monsoon rain storms are occurring and many other places are experiencing “mega hell fires” people aren’t laughing anymore…

…and that clown by the name of trump that so many Wyoming voters are so crazy about pulled out of the Paris accord which was meant to combat climate related problems…
