Sheridan Man Sentenced on Multiple Drug Related Charges

A Sheridan man was sentenced Tuesday in 4th Judicial District Court in Sheridan for multiple charges related to methamphetamine. On September 15, 2021, 55-year-old Michael Carnley was arrested and charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and felony taking a controlled substance into jail – methamphetamine.

District Court Judge Darci Phillips accepted the terms of the plea agreement reached with the state and sentenced Carnley to 1 to 3 years in prison for the charge of taking a controlled substance into jail, suspended in lieu of one-year of supervised probation, 180 days in jail for the possession charge, suspended in lieu of one-year of supervised probation and concurrent to the sentence for the felony charge, and 120 days in jail, suspended in lieu of one-year of supervised probation for the DUI charge, suspended in lieu of one-year of supervised probation and consecutive to counts one and two.  Carnley was also ordered to pay $675 in various court costs and $500 in public defender fees.
