Aaron PalmerBudget sessions for local governments for the 2021-22 fiscal year will be scheduled in the coming weeks, and although no specifics are known just yet, local government officials are aware that a “tightening of the belt” will be needed as tax revenue for the state is down, and therefore so will be direct distribution funds to county and city governments.
Buffalo Mayor Shane Schrader sat down with Sheridan Media to discuss the upcoming budget sessions, and what city government will be facing this year.
He said creativity will be a necessity.
The city’s budget for the current 2020-21 fiscal year was just under $13 million, with nearly $6 million set for Capital Improvements; $1 million for the Buffalo Business Park; $1.8 million for the Buffalo Wells and Transmission Line Project; with most of the funding coming from grants for these projects.
Three million dollars in funding from the special purpose sixth penny sales tax was allocated for the Fetterman/Burritt Street Project.
Mayor Schrader said budget sessions haven’t been scheduled as yet, but City Clerk Julie Silbernagel has begun to set the schedule up by requesting possible dates from the council members.
