Ellen L. Dumelle
A celebration of life for Ellen L. Dumelle, a 77-year-old Buffalo woman who passed away August 14, will be held at Summit Church at 10am on September 26, 2026.
Ellen was born in Denver to Clayton and Janet Tidball. As a child, Ellen was a member of Job’s Daughters and Girl Scouts and was a hospital candy striper. She grew up in Broomfield, Colorado, before moving to Park Ridge, Illinois, where she graduated from Maine South High School in the class of 1966.
She was married on July 22, 1967, at Park Ridge Community Church to the love of her life, Edward Dumelle. They made their first home in Chicago. After Ed was discharged from the army, they moved to Boulder, Colorado. A short time later in Longmont, they raised two daughters. Ellen worked at Longmont Clinic and Longmont United Hospital.
Ellen volunteered at Longmont United Hospital for many years, and was involved in many aspects of church in Longmont, including playing in the bell choir.
In 2000, Ellen and Ed retired in Buffalo, Wyoming, where they found a pleasant and friendly community to make their home.
They both enjoyed golfing, fishing, and traveling throughout North America in their camper trailer together. They volunteered in childcare at MOPS, helped families take the next step toward new homes through Habitat for Humanity’s sweat equity program, and found friendship, family, and a strong sense of connection at Summit Church.
Ellen was skilled at sewing, cross-stitch, quilting, and knitting. Over the course of several years, she knitted hundreds of pairs of socks that were shipped internationally to those in need with Vision Beyond Borders. She and Ed also sewed baby quilts that were sent to expectant and new mothers in need in communities across Africa. Ellen also volunteered for the Quilts of Valor project locally, where she and other quilters created blankets for wounded soldiers returning home from wars abroad.
A kind and caring soul, Ellen was always there for others to lend a helping hand and a generous heart.
Ellen is survived by her husband of 59 years, Edward Dumelle of Buffalo; two daughters, Wendy and her husband Matt, and Diane; and three grandchildren, Maggie, Joshua, and Alexander. She was preceded in death by her parents.
