The Sheridan College Men’s Rodeo team has put themselves in position to compete for the College National Championship.

Thanks to a 3rd place finish (tied with Laramie County CC) at this past weekend’s University of Wyoming Rodeo Event, the team finished in the top 2 of the Central Rocky Mountain Region (CRMR) Team Standings for the 2025-’26 season.

According to National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) rules, the Sheridan College Men’s team can have up to 6 competitors at the 2026 College National Finals Rodeo (a women’s team can have up to 4), which is scheduled to take place June 14th thru the 20th in Casper.

Those competitors who placed in the top 3 in each individual event automatically qualify.

If a team does not have enough top 3 finishers to complete their team, non top 3 finishers are allowed to compete at the CNFR, provided they finished in the top 5 or top 30% of the event they competed in.

Jake Schlattmann won the saddle bronc riding competition at UW, and with the win, he also became the CRMR Champion.

Christopher Nelson is also CNFR bound, for placing 3rd in the saddle bronc region standings.

Lonnie Dunn was 3rd in saddle broncs at the UW Rodeo, and finished 4th in the region.

Reece Reder was 2nd at the UW rodeo in bareback riding and finished 4th in the region.

Tyon Arneson finished 5th in the region in Tie-Down Roping.

For Dunn, Reder and Arneson, they are not officially in the CNFR, but based on NIRA rules, it is highly probable that they will be in.

For the Sheridan College women, Sierra Hilgenkamp placed 2nd at the UW rodeo in the breakaway roping, which was enough for her to complete her late season surge, and place 2nd in the region, making her the lone cowgirl to qualify for the CNFR.

Josie Johnson tied for 1st in the barrel racing at the UW rodeo, but did not have enough points in the region standings to finish in the top 3.
