Ruby Jacobs Of Sheridan HS To Compete In Track and Field At Emporia State Univ.
A Sheridan High School hurdler will soon jump her way into a Hornets’ nest of sorts.
Ruby Jacobs has signed a written offer of athletic aid, to join the track and field team at Emporia State University in Kansas.
She placed 3rd in last year’s 4A Girls 100 Meter Hurdles race at the Wyoming Outdoor Track and Field State Meet.
Jacobs says she’s been competing in the hurdles since 7th grade and the ESU Track and Field team was in need of someone with her type of athletic ability.
“They were looking for more hurdlers. They had turned all of their hurdlers into heptathletes, and so it was kind of just a perfect fit. I’ll for sure hurdle and then I’ll probably sprint. I think it’s so fun and I love competing, I love the team and it just brings me a lot of joy in my life, so I figured I’d keep going.”
Jacobs adds she is considering majoring in Orthopedics.
Emporia State University is located about 110 miles southwest of Kansas City.
The Lady Hornets compete at the NCAA Division 2 level.
