An exhibit on display at SAGE Community Arts tells a story of healing a deep hurt between two families.
Executive Director of SAGE Community Arts, Jill Benson, made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss the exhibit “My Family Anti-Autobiography.” The work has been created by Miami, Fla. based artist, Natalya Kochak.
The two met while Kochak was a resident at the Jentel Artist Residency. Kochak has returned to exhibit her work that reflects a personal family history. A history that Kochak discovered while performing genealogical research with her mother.

Kochak and her family had difficulty processing this revelation. But ultimately, Benson said, they chose to face the history and to heal together, creating a new narrative between the two families.

The exhibit opened July 23, and will be on display until Aug. 24. An artist reception will be 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Aug. 1.
