The first quarter was all Cody, but after that, the momentum slowly turned towards Sheridan.
Trailing 17-7 after 1 quarter, and down 21-12 at halftime, the Lady Broncs took control in the 2nd half, outscoring the defending champ Fillies 27-13, and held on to win 39-34 and advance to the 2024 4A State Championship Game.
Adeline Burgess led the Lady Broncs in scoring with 12 points, including 3 3’s, to increase her school record total to 74 on the season.
Mesa Hanft had a double-double (11 points and 10 rebounds).
The turning point happened in the middle of the second quarter, when Cody’s best player and last year’s Wyoming Gatorade Player of the Year, Molly Hays, banged up her knee while going for the ball and never returned.
The biggest difference statistics wise between the 2 teams, was that Sheridan hit 7 3’s, compared to Cody’s 3.
The Lady Broncs will play in the 2024 4A Girls State Championship Game on Saturday, March 9th at 6:30pm at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper, vs. Campbell County.
Sheridan last won the state championship in 2007 and was State Runners-Up in 2011.
