Sheridan County HS Basketball: Sheridan County High School Basketball teams went a combined 16-6 in the last big weekend of games before the holiday break.

The Sheridan boys won both of their road games to improve their record to 4-2.

The Broncs won Friday at Buffalo 50-43 and on Saturday at Cody 58-54.

The Lady Broncs split their games, winning Friday at home vs. Buffalo 72-67, and then on Saturday, they dropped their first game of the season at Cody, 56-54.

Both Sheridan teams don’t play again until January 4th, 5th and 6th at Cheyenne.

Big Horn and Tongue River High Schools hosted the Foothills Classic this past weekend.

The TR boys and girls each went 4-0, as both genders defeated Wyoming Indian, Greybull, Big Piney, and Wind River.

The BH boys and girls split their games.

The Rams lost vs. Sheridan’s JV team, beat Wind River, lost against Wyoming Indian and won against Big Piney.

The Lady Rams beat the Sheridan JV team, lost to both Wind River and Wyoming Indian and then defeated Big Piney.

Both Tongue River and Big Horn are back in action on January 5th.

Meanwhile, the Arvada-Clearmont boys lost at Ten Sleep this past Friday, while the girls picked up a road win.

Both the Panthers and Lady Panthers have games this week.

Tomorrow they are scheduled to play at Campbell County against one of the Camel JV teams.

On Thursday, they’ll be in Sheridan to take on the Bronc freshmen.

Sheridan HS Wrestling: The Sheridan boys went 5-3 in dual meets at the Gillette Invitational.

All 3 of their losses were against non-Wyoming opponents.

Meanwhile the Sheridan girls placed 3rd out of 11 teams and had 2 1st place finishers, 3 2nds and 3 3rds.

Sheridan is scheduled to be back in action tomorrow in a dual meet at Cody.


Sheridan HS Boys Swimming: Sheridan boys placed 6th out of 10 teams at the Kelly Walsh Invitational.

Ben Forsythe finished 1st in the 50 yard freestyle and was 2nd in the 100 yard breaststroke.

The next meet for the Broncs will be January 5th and 6th, as they host the Sheridan Invitational.


University of Wyoming Basketball: In College basketball, the Wyoming Cowboys dropped their first home game of the season Saturday night against Weber State, 84-71.

Akuel Kot led the Pokes with 24 points, while Sam Griffin put in 22, and Brendan Wenzel had 11.

The defense was the big let down, as all 5 of Weber State’s starters scored in double-figures.

UW is now 7-4 on the season and are back in action this coming Wednesday and Thursday at the 4-team Sun Bowl Invitational in El Paso, Texas.

The Cowboys play South Dakota State at 5pm Wednesday, and then they’ll play either UTEP or Norfolk State on Thursday.

As for the Wyoming Cowgirls, they lost yesterday at Montana State 64-55.

Malene Pedersen led the way with 18 points, but the Cowgirls only shot 38% for the game, and got only 9 points from the bench, compared to 26 for Montana State.

UW is now 4-5 on the season and next play at the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Tournament.

They are scheduled to play Thursday at 3:30pm vs. Wright State and then Friday at 1pm vs. Eastern Washington.


Mountain West Conference Football News: The Wyoming Cowboys will not have their offensive coordinator at the Arizona Bowl next week.

Tim Polasek has been named the new head coach at North Dakota State University.

He was an assistant coach with Craig Bohl at NDSU from 2006-2012 and was the offensive coordinator and running backs coach from 2014-2016 and has been at UW the past 3 seasons.

Wyoming plays Toledo in the Arizona Bowl in Tucson one week from this coming Saturday.

Elsewhere in the Mountain West Conference, Fresno State started the conference’s bowl run this past Saturday with a 37-10 win against New Mexico State in the New Mexico Bowl.

Boise State was unable to keep the momentum going as they lost to UCLA in the LA Bowl 35-22.

Three Mountain West teams will play in their bowl games this coming Saturday.

At 1:30pm it’s Utah State vs. Georgia State in the Potato Bowl, and at the same time, Air Force will take on James Madison University in the Armed Forces Bowl.

At 8:30pm Saturday, San Jose State will take on Coastal Carolina in the Hawaii Bowl.


Denver Broncos Football: The Denver Broncos got roughed up Saturday night at Detroit 42-17.

Quarterback Russell Wilson had a decent game as he was 18 of 32 passing for 223 yards and 1 touchdown, but Denver only had 83 yards rushing for the game and the defense could not stop Jared Goff who was 24 of 34 passing for 278 yards and 5 TD’s.

The Broncos are now 7-7 on the season with 3 games to go and are 1 game behind for a wild card spot.

Denver’s next game is the Sunday night game on Christmas Eve at home vs. New England.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:15pm


Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets lost at home vs. Oklahoma City on Saturday 118-117.

The defending NBA champs are now 17-10 on the season and next play tonight at home vs. Dallas at 7 o’clock.


Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche split their weekend games, losing Saturday at Winnipeg 6-2, and won last night at home vs. San Jose by that same 6-2 score.

The Avs next play tomorrow at Chicago.


Sheridan Hawks Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks were victorious last night at the Na3hl’s showcase event in Blaine, Minnesota, by defeating the Mid Cities Junior Stars out of Euless, Texas by a score of 5-3.

The Hawks play again today against the St. Louis Junior Blues beginning at 6:15pm.
