A recent graduate from Sheridan High School will soon launch himself to new heights.

Pole Vaulter Ryan Karajanis has signed his letter of intent to join the track and field team at South Dakota State University, in particular the pole vault event.

During his time at Sheridan he was the indoor state champ in his sophomore, junior and senior years, and broke his own indoor school record as a senior.

He’s also the outdoor champ in his freshman and senior years, outdoor state runner-up his junior year, and a member of the 4A Boys State Champ 4 by 100 meter relay team as a senior.

Karajanis says he was contacted by Montana State and Nebraska, but chose SDSU because another high school coach from within Wyoming put in a good word to associate coach David St. John who reached out.

“A couple of weeks ago, we went on a visit and the Cody Track Coach, Scott Schaffer went to college with the vault coach of South Dakota State, and he told St. John about myself and then he invited me to come on a visit, and I loved it there . The facilities are super super nice, and the coach is a great guy and he knows what he’s doing and I think he believes in me as an athlete.”

Karajanis says he plan to major in human biology and become an orthodontist.
