An issue that came to light during work over the last six months between Sheridan County officials and the Wyoming Legislature on redistricting the house and senate seats was presented to the Sheridan City Council at their recent study session. Sheridan County Clerk Eda Schunk Thompson provided some background to the Council on what she referred to as county islands, or areas of unincorporated property that is surrounded by city property.

Thompson explained to the council that the issue has the potential to lead to split ballots in the upcoming election.

Thompson said the only solution to eliminate the county islands is for the City Council to annex the six county islands into the city. Thompson was asked what kind of a timeline she’d like to see for the annexations. She said she’d like to have it cleaned up before the candidate filing period begins on May 12. This year’s Primary Election will take place on August 18. The General Election will be held November 8.
