An evening out with friends could help save lives

Firefighter Cancer Support Network of Wyoming State Director Paul Juergens made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse and announced a fundraiser that will allow the Sheridan community an opportunity to help firefighters battle cancer.

The image of the firefighter battling a blaze or rescuing people from structure fires is iconic. Rushing into a fire for the sake of lives is a level of bravery and selfless service in which to aspire, but for firefighters that’s only half the battle. Juergens explained that cancer is a long-term risk for firefighters—one that is significantly higher than for the general public.

The Firefighter Cancer Support Network was founded by a retired firefighter diagnosed with cancer, to bring awareness of this increased risk and provide support for others diagnosed.

Many believe that fire is the greatest risk to a firefighter, but the data tells a more sobering truth.

To aid in raising funds and continue to support their fellow firefighters, Blacktooth Brewing is donating $1 from every pint sold beginning at 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 25.
