Johnson County will be participating in the OneWyo Opioid Settlement, after a decision by the county commission.

The class action settlement is due to a nation-wide lawsuit against pharmaceutical companies supplying opioid drugs.

County Attorney Tucker Ruby explained to the commission that although at this time there are no specific amounts of settlement funds due to the unknown number of participants in the settlement, there is an estimate that Johnson County’s settlement range could be from just over $29,000 to possibly roughly $266,000.

He explained there will be specific uses for the funds, to be held in escrow by the State Attorney General’s Office, and distributed to local governments for approved uses until their share of settlement funds is used.

The commission approved Chairman Bill Novotny to sign the two settlement participation forms and the Memorandum of Agreement concerning the opioid settlement.
