Ron RichterThe State of Wyoming faces a $300 million shortfall in education revenue and lawmakers in Cheyenne continue to work on ways to reduce spending on K-12 education in the state. Governor Mark Gordon says the biggest elephant in the State Capitol this year is the future of Wyoming’s K-12 education system.
Legislators are looking at several different options to address the funding deficit, including cutting spending and raising taxes or new taxes. The Legislature is scheduled to adjourn on April 2.

I’m willing to pay more in sales and gas taxes and various fees but I don’t think we should allow invasive things like income tax or a mileage tax to become law in Wyoming. Nor should we allow the the state to raise property taxes and price people on fixed incomes out of their homes. I’d like to see cuts and tax increases meet somewhere in the middle.

We don’t need to raise property tax rates to force the long time Wyoming citizens out of their homes. You just need to keep incentivizing property developers who think of themselves as the fabled “King of the Britons” that will continue to build homes and update old homes regardless of weather or not the local economy can support it. You know, the kind of developers who see the big construction outfits from Denver with the fleets of trucks that have matching full body vinyl decals, off-road upgrades (we all know the most important factor in building a house is the off-road performance of contractor’s truck), and dozens of jobs at any given time, and think that Sheridan can support a business like that.

Calling it a “Moral obligation” is supposed to guilt us into agreeing with this. Lets #cutthepork.

It is a 4% income tax proposal. All taxable unearned income over 200,000. They are looking at implementing a full fledged online for kids who “want it” and creating a Directors position.
