Buffalo Mayor Shane Schrader has proclaimed September 6th through the 12th as “Suicide Prevention Week” in Buffalo, to coincide with the World Suicide Prevention Day on Thursday, September 10th.

Mayor Schrader, in the proclamation, said Wyoming is ranked third in the nation for annual suicide deaths, and the number one cause of death in the state for those aged 15 to 24, and seventh for all ages.

He said the proclamation should help to make everyone aware of the public health issue and learn how they can help because “suicide is everyone’s business.”

He then gave the signed proclamation to Arianna Prescher and Bill Hawley with the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Johnson County, who then gave a presentation on upcoming events in Buffalo for prevention week, including the main event at Crazy Woman Square next Thursday.

We will have more on next week’s events in an upcoming story.
