SCSD#3 Board Discusses AI, Activities

On Wednesday, April 9, the SCSD#3 School Board at their April meeting heard a comment from parent Karen Carvalho, about how she feels that AI can help her middle school students.
She felt that AI helps the teachers as well. “I think it is going in the right direction,” she added.
Jennifer Betz, activities director, reported on the participation in activities. She said she did a report for the Wyoming High School Athletics Association every year.
“Those numbers are really exciting,” she said.

Jonathan Broersma reported on a new tech program the school is starting to use,
If there is a high level threat, the app can alert area law enforcement as well.
The board voted to approve contracts for Jennifer Betz, as K-12 Assistant Principal, Joslyn Schiffer-Camino as director of Curriculum and instruction, and Amanda Schmidt, new 7-12 Vocational Agriculture Teacher/FFA Advisor.
They voted to accept letters of resignation from Jeanne Camino, Bus Driver and Gale Cole, special education paraprofessional. The board also approved to offer a sign-on bonus and a retention bonus for bus drivers.
They accepted bids from Salt Lake Valley Automotive Services for two MPV’s for school use. They also approved two policies on first reading, 6151- AI Usage Rules and 8352-E, Board Meeting Public Comment Sign-in Form.
Superintendent Chase Christensen talked about the upcoming RIDE Demonstration of Learning event to be held April 10 at Sheridan College.
Last month the board heard a presentation on the topic from Betsy Mack, 7-12 English teacher, on the work-based learning initiative, where students can earn English credits while working at a job.

The board discussed the upcoming staff and teacher appreciate week coming up in May, and the greenhouse ribbon cutting, which will be held on April 22, followed by a listening session about the gym renovations.
