cvannoySheridan County School District No. 2 (SCSD2) is proud to announce that Sagebrush Elementary School has been designated an Exemplary High Performing National Blue Ribbon School for 2024 by U. S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. Sagebrush is one of 356 schools nationwide and one of three schools from Wyoming to be recognized in 2024. This is the third Blue Ribbon award for Sagebrush, with the first award in 2009 and the second in 2018. Sagebrush Elementary is the first elementary school in Wyoming to receive this distinguished honor three times. Along with Sagebrush, Parkside Elementary in Powell and Thermopolis Middle School were recognized.
“The National Blue-Ribbon Schools Award is a testament to the exceptional achievements of students and educators at each of these schools,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona in a recent press release. “The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are raising the bar for our nation’s students, serving as models for effective teaching and intentional collaboration in their schools and communities. As we celebrate their achievements, let us look to these schools for inspiration as we champion education as the foundation of a brighter future for every child.”
SCSD2 Superintendent Scott Stults shared that, “Sagebrush staff are committed to building relationships with students and families, collaborate to ensure the learning of every student, and demonstrate a steadfast focus on providing a positive, supportive and safe environment. I am proud of all of our students and every member of the Sagebrush community as they continue their success.”
Sagebrush Elementary Principal Justin Rohrer commented, “I am honored to be part of the Sagebrush team. Our school functions as a professional learning community where the adults recognize their impact on each student’s future. At Sagebrush, every single student matters and the staff does a magnificent job of reaching every learner. This recognition is very well deserved by our students, parents, and staff.”
According to the US Department of Education, National Blue Ribbon Schools are led by leaders who articulate a clear vision of instructional excellence and uphold high standards. They showcase effective teaching methods and offer robust professional development for their staff. Data-driven instruction is a hallmark, and there is a concerted effort to ensure every student succeeds. Collaboration among families, communities, and educators is a key component of their success.
Sagebrush Elementary will be honored at an awards ceremony in Washington, DC, where representatives will receive a plaque and flag to signify the school’s exemplary status. The SCSD2 Board of Trustees will recognize Sagebrush at their October 7th meeting.
Along with Sagebrush Elementary, Meadowlark Elementary and Henry A. Coffeen Elementary are two-time Blue Ribbon award winners. Highland Park Elementary, Woodland Park Elementary, and Sheridan Junior High School are also Blue-Ribbon award winners.
