SPD: leave nothing to chance when it comes to possible flooding

Temperatures at high elevations have prevented a large run-off this spring season so far, but that doesn’t mean Sheridan is out of the woods just yet.
Sandbag locations are still being supplied by Sheridan County in the event a run-off occurs. Chief of the Sheridan Police Department Travis Koltiska and Captain Tom Ringley advise those who may live in traditional flood areas to be prepared in the event the water arrives.

Having a small amount of essential supplies ready in a small bag can be a life saver in a pinch. Chief Koltiska is optimistic about the flood season so far, but suggested leaving nothing to chance.

In the event of a flood, do not attempt to drive through running water. The National Weather Service recommends avoiding areas already flooded, especially if the water is flowing quickly. Do not attempt to cross flowing streams, road beds may be washed out under flood waters.
