SCSD#2 Board of Trustees held their monthly meeting on Monday, Sept. 12.

Superintendent Scott Stults said that he wanted to celebrate the board, thanking them for their support and vision for the schools in SCSD#2.  He said he couldn’t thank them enough for what they do and the many hours they put in.  “You have made the school,” he added. “As trustees you set the gold standard.”

Chairman Sue Wilson responded to Stults comments:

She said the board celebrates the SCSD#2 teachers and administrators as well and they are thankful for the schools’ support.

Chad Rose, Band Director introduced the students who will be auditioning for the All-national Band and Orchestra.  Dillion Lemon, Concert Band, Bassoon 2; Brielle Schasteen, Concert Band, French Horn 3; and Charlie Herzog, Jazz Band, Trombone 4. Alternates Avi Bergman, trumpet; Caleb Kunsman Euphonium;  and Kyle Rockwell, Clarinet.

SCSD#2 was given a clean audit by Carver, Florek and James CPA’s LLC. Wilson displayed a slide showing where the money is used and said that the largest percentage goes to instruction.  She said that per student costs in SCSD#2 are the lowest in the state, a little over $14,000 per student.  She added that schools in Sheridan are some of the highest-ranking schools in the state as well.

Troy Decker reported on facilities updates, including the Fifth Street Greenhouses, which are now ready for use.

Superintendent Rebecca Adsit reported that there are 3619 enrolled so far this year, up from 2021, when there were 3577 students enrolled at this time.

Douglas Wheeler was the only person to offer audience comments, and he voiced this concern:

He also talked about a bullying incident that happened to a sixth grader on the school bus. He felt there was not enough enforcement of the zero-tolerance bullying policy at the school.  “This is serious stuff,” he said.
