Scammers have used many forms of communication to steal personal information from victims. From the use of traditional mail, social media platforms, telephone and emails, nothing is off limits for the criminal element that makes billions of dollars every year off of unsuspecting people.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Kayla Oswald informed listeners of yet another technique scammers have adapted to using in an attempt to steal information.

Federal Trade Commission data shows that consumers reported losing more than $5.8 billion to fraud in 2021, an increase of more than 70 percent over the previous year.

If you feel that you or someone you care for has been victimized through this or another scam through social media, telephone or the mail system, contact the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office at 307-672-3455.
