Ruby Jacobs has signed a written offer of athletic aid, to join the track and field team at Emporia State University in Kansas.
She placed 3rd in last year’s 4A Girls 100 Meter Hurdles race at the Wyoming Outdoor Track and Field State Meet.
Jacobs says she’s been competing in the hurdles since 7th grade and the ESU Track and Field team was in need of someone with her type of athletic ability.
Jacobs adds she is considering majoring in Orthopedics.
Emporia State University is located about 110 miles southwest of Kansas City.
The Lady Hornets compete at the NCAA Division 2 level.
Indoor Track and Field Simplot Games Preview: This coming Thursday thru Saturday is a big one for indoor track and field competitors.
It’s the annual Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho on the campus of Idaho State University.
Athletes from various schools in the western US will be at this event, which some have used to spring-board themselves as potential college recruits and not necessarily in this sport.
Sheridan High School Head Coach Taylor Kelting says a meet like this helps Wyoming athletes get ready for the state meet, which is 2 weeks away.
Senior Rudy Green competed at last year’s Simplot Games and placed 8th in the 200 meter dash.
He says it can be easy for an inexperienced competitor to get caught up in the hype of both the meet as well as the facility, but speaking from his own experience, once you get going, the competition becomes enjoyable.
Competition on Thursday starts at 4:30pm.
Friday’s and Saturday’s schedule begins at 8:30am.
