The College Rodeo Regular Season has concluded and now it’s onto the College National Finals Rodeo.

Going into this past weekend’s rodeo at the University of Wyoming, Clancy Glenn was already assured of being the Central Rocky Mountain Region Champ in the Saddle bronc riding.

He went out and competed anyway, and finished tied for first, with team-mate Joseph Priebe, with a 2-round score of 156 points.

Cowboys and cowgirls get points based on what place they finish in, at each of the 10 rodeos through the season, and the top 3 in the standings when the season is over, are invited to the College National Finals Rodeo.

For Priebe, the first place finish this past weekend, was bigger for him than it was for Glenn, because going into the weekend, Priebe was outside of the top 3 and was looking in.

Now he’s in…not by much, but that doesn’t matter.

In the bull riding, Wyatt Phelps caught a big break, in fact he caught the only one.

He made it to the 8 second whistle once, and it turned out, that was all he needed, because no one else got a score, thus Phelps won the weekend, and got the points he needed to land in the top 3.

For the weekend, the Sheridan College men’s team placed 3rd and the women were tied for 7th.

For the season, the Sheridan men were 5th in the region and the women were 7th.

Sheridan College Coach Marc Gilkerson was named Central Rocky Mountain Region Coach of the Year.

He’s been the coach for 14 years and says this is one more thing he can scratch off his bucket list.

Marc Gilkerson

“I had some goals. I wanted to have a national champion, which I’ve got 2 of those. I wanted to have a regional team champion, which had never been done at Sheridan College and we did that in 2017 and 2018, never been done and then we’ve had regional champions but I wanted to get a coach of the year award for myself, so be a little selfish.”

Coach Gilkerson adds this will be the 12th year in a row that Sheridan College will be represented at the College National Finals Rodeo.

The 2023 CNFR will take place June 11th through the 17th in Casper.
