SHERIDAN TROOPER BASEBALL – After 14 years as the Head coach of the Sheridan Troopers Ben Phillips has stepped down, we sat down at Thorne-Rider stadium Friday morning to visit with Phillips and first he says this is the right time to move on.
It’s been quite a run going all the way back to his playing days in the Sheridan American legion program in the early 1990’s.
And after this long run Phillips says he will miss some things, being with the players is one but he won’t be leaving coaching completely.
BRONC FOOTBALL – The Sheridan Bronc football team takes the field today for the first practices of the new season.
The first game of the season will be a home game with Cheyenne Central August 26th.
GOLF – The Bronc and Lady Bronc golfers open their fall season this week on Wednesday hosting the Sheridan invitational.
TENNIS – The Bronc and Lady Bronc tennis teams open practice today their first competition will take play August 16th.
AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL – The American Legion Northwest regional baseball tournament came to a close in Gillette Sunday with Cheyenne coming very close to a trip to the Legion world series but they fall short against the two time defending national champs.
Post six beat Idaho Falls in the first title game 9-4 that gave Idaho Falls their first loss of the tournament which forced a deciding game that turned into a extra inning thriller.
Cheyenne led 5-4 going into the bottom of the 7th inning Idaho Falls got a solo home run to tie the game and in the 9th inning they got a walk off hit to win the tournament for the third year in a row, they now head to Shelby, North Carolina for the “Little World Series” where they are the two time defending champs.
