Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball team was victorious yesterday against Laramie 3-1, in their first game of the Wyoming Legion Baseball AA State Tournament in Casper.

Tyler Riesen pitched 4 2/3rds innings, striking out 7, while Avon Barney, Blaine Phillps and Frankie Maestri each had 1 RBI.

Head Coach Austin Cowen says it wasn’t the prettiest of wins, but that’s baseball sometimes, and now it’s time to move on from it.

Up next for the Troopers is a second round game today vs. Cheyenne Post 6 at 4pm.

Sheridan swept the head-to-head series against the Sixers back at the beginning of June, but that was almost 2-months ago.

Cowen says a lot has changed between then and now.

Other scores from yesterday’s AA State Tournament…Cheyenne Post 6 defeated Rock Springs 14-4.

Gillette beat the Cheyenne Hawks 9-2 and Casper took care of business vs. Jackson 12-2.

Today’s schedule looks like this.

The first 2 games are elimination games.

It will be Laramie vs. Rock Springs at 10am, and then the Cheyenne Hawks vs. Jackson at 1pm.

As mentioned, the Troopers play Cheyenne Post 6 at 4pm, and after that it will be Gillette vs. Casper starting at 7pm.

Sheridan College Hires Interim Rodeo Coach: Sheridan College has brought back a former rodeo coach to take over the reigns of the program.

Whether or not it’s permanent is to be determined.

Zane Garstad has been brought back on an interim basis.

As a competitor he qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo in 1983, and went on to become a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association in 1985, qualifying for the Mountain States Circuit Finals in 1987 and 1992.

He served as the Sheridan College coach back in the 1990’s.

As the interim coach, Garstad will lead the team through the upcoming fall season, focusing on developing student-athletes both in their rodeo skills and academic pursuits.
