A Sheridan Bronc Basketball Player will switch his colors from blue and gold, to brown and gold.
Garrett Spielman has announced he is joining the University of Wyoming Cowboy basketball team as a preferred walk-on.
It’s the highest status a recruit can get, outside of receiving an athletic scholarship.
This past season for Sheridan, Spielman averaged 14.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
He was also the leading rebounder for the Broncs with 163.
Spielman says the recent coaching change at UW did not factor into his decision, because most of his talks have been with the assistant coaches and not with former Coach Jeff Linder and current coach Sundance Wicks.
He explains what the Cowboy Coaching Staff saw in him and adds the college game is much different than at the high school level.
“I think potential, along with the fact that I’m a larger kind of guy, who can play guard as well. Obviously everything will be a little faster, a little bigger, more athletic and I’m just going to have to work hard every practice, every weight room session.”
Next month Spielman will play for the Wyoming All-Stars in their 2-game series vs. Montana.
