The Wyoming High School Spring Sports State Championship events start today with soccer going on in Rock Springs and Green River, and track and field in Casper.

Sheridan HS Boys Soccer: The Sheridan boys soccer team is going after only its second state championship in school history.

The lone title win was in 2011.

First up for the Broncs is the host team, Rock Springs, beginning at 11am.

This season, overtime was removed from regular season contests, but for the regional and state tournaments, the extra 2 10-minute periods will be played if needed.

Bronc Head Coach Wade Kinsey says thankfully the boys didn’t have to play any extra time at the regional tournament and if needed at the state tournament, they’ll be ready for it.

The Buffalo girls play Lander in the first round at 2pm today at Green River.

The Buffalo boys play GR at 4pm.

State Track and Field: The Wyoming High School State Track and Field Meet starts at 3pm today at Kelly Walsh High School.

The 3200 meter run is first on the schedule, followed by about a dozen field events.

Also today, will be the preliminary runs of the boys 110 meter and girls 100 meter hurdles races and the finals of the 1600 sprint medley relay.

Sheridan Mavericks and Lady Mavericks Lacrosse: the Sheridan Mavericks and Lady Mavericks will be at the Montana High School Lacrosse Association State Championship tournament on Saturday and Sunday at Helena.

Both Sheridan teams compete at the Division 2 level.

The Lady Mavericks are seeded #2 in their 4-team bracket and will play Billings in the semi-finals on Saturday at 11am.

The championship and 3rd place games will be held on Sunday.

Emily Walton is a senior from Sheridan High School.

She says it’s a small bracket and the Lady Mavericks are taking on the same teams that they’ve already faced 3 times already, but that should make for some interesting competition the 4th time around.

As for the boys, the Mavericks are seeded #3 out of 9 teams and will play Cody in the first round on Saturday at 11am.

The semi-finals and consolation round will be played later that afternoon.

The championship, 3rd place, and 5th place games will be held on Sunday.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies have now won 7 in a row, have put together their first road sweep of a team this season, and won their first game of the season via shutout.

Yesterday afternoon, the Rocks completed a 3-game sweep at San Diego winning 8-zip.

Colorado pitching held the Padres to 4 hits in the game.

Brenton Doyle hit a solo home run and Jordan Beck hit a 2-run shot to help the cause.

The Rockies are off today and begin a 3-game series tomorrow at San Francisco.

Denver Nuggets Basketball/NBA Playoffs: The Denver Nuggets will try to advance to the Western Conference Finals tonight, when they play game 6 of their second round best of 7 series at Minnesota.

The Nuggets lead the series 3-games-to-2, and tonight’s game tips off at 6:30.

If Game 7 is needed, it would be played on Sunday at Denver.

Elsewhere in the playoffs, Boston advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals with a 113-98 win at home vs. Cleveland, to close out the series 4-1.

Dallas is taking the fight to Oklahoma City.

The Mavericks won on the road last night 104-92, to go up 3-2 in their series.

Colorado Avalanche Hockey/NHL Playoffs: The Colorado Avalanche are still alive thanks to a 5-3 win last night at Dallas.

The game was tied at 2 heading into the 3rd period and the Avs scored 3 to pull away.

Colorado still trails the 2nd round best of 7 series 3-2.

Game 6 is tomorrow at Denver.

Should the Avalanche win, that would force a Game 7, which would be played on Sunday at Dallas.
